VP of Engineering | Harmonic Drive

Brian Coyne is VP of Engineering at Harmonic Drive LLC. Thanks to Brian’s knowledge and expertise in mechatronics, Harmonic Drive LLC developed and launched a line of mini-actuators with a built-in, integrated servo drive. His team is currently working on new mini-actuator lines with advance features that will be announced soon. Before coming to Harmonic Drive, he spent 15 years at Assembly and Automation Technology (AAT). Prior to AAT, he attended Tufts University where he developed his appreciation and understanding for custom machine design and processes. Brian holds a BSME and a Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering (MSME) from Tufts University.

    This session will discuss the need for motion control solutions that offer leading edge performance and reliability, while navigating around tight design constraints. Power density continues to be a cornerstone in robot actuator design, but this is often compromised by additional functionality required of actuators and their cabling. We will examine a new solution to these problems through the development of Harmonic Drive’s LPA-20 actuator that optimizes power density while integrating a servo drive with options for CANopen or EtherCAT communication protocols.
