Dawn Tilbury is the Assistant Director for Engineering at the National Science Foundation (NSF). She leads the Directorate for Engineering, with an annual budget of more than $900M (FY18). The Directorate for Engineering supports basic engineering research and education critical to the nation’s future, and fosters innovations that benefit society. The Engineering Directorate also helps to advance NSF’s Ten Big Ideas, including the Future of Work at the Human-Technology Frontier, the Quantum Leap, and NSF INCLUDES. Tilbury is also a Professor of Mechanical Engineering Department at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, with a joint appointment as Professor of EECS. Her research interests lie broadly in the area of control systems, including applications to robotics and manufacturing systems. She has published more than 150 articles in refereed journals and conference proceedings. Tilbury is an IEEE and ASME Fellow, and a Life Member of SWE. She holds a BS from the University of Minnesota, and MS and PhD degrees from the University of California, Berkeley
